Climate Change and Adaptation

In response to the escalating impact of climate change on communities across Papua New Guinea (PNG), the PNG Red Cross Society is addressing the humanitarian consequences through the initiation of a Local Climate Resilience Initiative. The effects of climate change, including floods, landslides, storms, droughts, and extreme temperature variations, are increasingly unpredictable and severe, significantly affecting the lives and livelihoods of the population. These changes also pose risks of food and water insecurity, displacement, exacerbated climate-related health threats, and the disruption of vital services and infrastructure. The Climate Change and Adaptation program strives to enhance awareness, resilience, and preparedness for current and future climate-related challenges. It emphasizes a targeted approach, recognizing the critical need to channel climate resilience investments to those who need it most in the country.
