Donate to Enga Landslide Relief

On Friday, May 24, 2024, at 3:00 a.m., a devastating landslide struck Yambali village in the Maip Mulitaka LLG of Lagaip-Porgera District, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea. Preliminary reports indicate a number of deaths, and it is estimated that at least 7,849 people have been affected. The landslide has blocked the main highway, cutting off access to the Porgera Mine and leaving the village isolated without access to food and supplies.

The devastating landslide buried houses under 8 meters of rock and rubble, where an estimated 7000 people slept. At present over 600 plus men, women and children have been estimated to have lost their lives.

The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society is responding to this humanitarian crisis with an initial supply of body bags. Moving forward, we plan to provide comprehensive support including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs, essential relief items, psychosocial support and initiatives focused on protection, gender, and inclusion during the recovery phase.
